SUMMARY:2018 Lignite Education Seminar
DESCRIPTION:General Information:\n\nOn June 11-14\, 2018\, the Lignite Energy Council will conduct an education seminar for approximately 130 elementary and secondary teachers from Minnesota\, Montana\, South Dakota and North Dakota. The seminar was totally revamped in 2009 and made into a two-credit class which lasts for four days. Participants can receive credit from the University of North Dakota (Teaching & Learning) North Dakota State University (Education)\, or Minot State University (Science). This means that teachers who took the class when it was a one-credit course can take it again if they need a refresher as there is lots of new information.\n\n\n\nThe seminar\, which will be held at Bismarck State College\, Bismarck\, ND\, will provide teachers with the information and educational materials they need to teach their students about how lignite is mined and used to produce electricity for homes\, farms and businesses in the Upper Midwest. In addition\, the seminar covers lignite's economic impact on the region\, as well as important environmental issues affecting the lignite industry.\n\n\n\nSince 1986\, more than 3\,200 teachers have attended the Lignite Energy Council's teacher education seminar.

LOCATION:National Energy Center of Excellence on the campus of Bismarck State College at 1200 Schafer St\, Bismarck\, ND. Most of the Seminar will take place in the Bavendick Room on the 4th floor of the NECE building. Some travel may be required to other locations within a short distance. For the tour day\, participants will be split into groups and taken by bus to various facility locations in Coal Country.
